To the night and back

Luke and I had a very adventurous Friday after we got out of classes. We went hiking (in flip flops) at Lake Easton after lunch. As soon as we got on the road Luke's friend Henry called him and told him we had to come say goodbye before he left the next morning (He just got married and him and his new wife are going down to CA to live near the Marine base before he goes to Afghanistan). So after our little hike we headed to Cle Elum so I could see where Luke is going to live and work this summer for his internship. After stopping in Ellensburg for something to eat we headed to Waterville. We helped them pack everything in the truck and hung out for a few hours (I met a lot of family--Henry's family is basically Luke's second family. They're very close). On our way back we stopped at my house to sit in the hottub and didn't get back to Ellensburg until 1...then we went to Jack in the Box. Thank goodness places are open late. I thought it was going to be a really boring Friday. Surprise adventures are the best!

Here are some pics from Lake Easton:

The best cure for cramps

"Life is a zoo in a jungle"
-Peter De Vries

This has nothing to do with the post but I liked the quote. I was thinking that I have cramps and cramps are part of life, which is where the quote comes in. Anyway, Luke, being the awesome boyfriend he is, randomly got me flowers on probably the most appropriate day ever (considering the cramps), because he is the best boyfriend ever. Aren't they pretty?

Easter Eggs!

Easter was a lot of fun! After Mom and I got back from meeting I dressed up in a pretty new Easter dress and helped her get food ready. We had ham, deviled eggs, fruit salad, and asparagus with cheese sauce. It was yummy. Mom got us all a little Easter gift. Dad and Robert got mentos and Jen, Luke and I got the extra big kiss thingys. After we ate Jen and Luke and I painted Easter eggs. It was a lot of fun. They turned out really pretty.

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.
~Leopold Stokowski

I have come to notice that my favorite music to listen to while I'm doing homework or driving or really doing anything is classical. I say that in the broad sense of the word since the 'classical' music I have and love is from different periods of time such as romantic and baroque. I got a lot of my classical music (I have hours of it) mostly from my music 104 class which was basically an intro to music class. I took that class over a year ago and ever since then I've grown to like it more everytime I hear it. I think the process of liking it more comes with knowing it more. That is to say as it becomes more familiar I like it more. I of course love the more popular pieces such as Cello suite no. 1 in d minor by Bach, Beethoven's fifth (especially the third movement), and Brandenburg Concerto by J.S. Bach, but I also love violin concertos and sonatas and piano pieces, especially nocturnes are always relaxing. This music is the only kind Luke and I really both like and can listen to at anytime and not be bothered.
It's the type of music that is never outdated. So as you get tired of the popular pieces, always playing on the radio, classical is always there.

Life is better on the weekends

So I had a pretty eventful weekend! For once. Luke took me home on Friday because I had to get my car and he had to pick up his BFF Henry (who has been in Iraq) from the airport at like, 11:30. So on Friday we got home, and after 5 minutes at my house were bored out of our minds, so we decided to go into town and get mom a coffee. She has been painting the house and right now is suffering through the living room, high ceilings and all. So we went into town and I decided to stop by gram's to say hi. After awhile there we got hungry so we went to the new sushi place. Yup, we went to a sushi restaurant. It was actually really good too. I got a california roll and Luke got a 'Seattle roll' which is has avocado and raw salmon. I was proud of him for being so adventurous. If you're wondering, raw salmon doesn't taste. At all. Which is probably a good thing.
The next day we were going to go back to Ellensburg earlyish but Henry asked Luke and I to go to dinner with him, his fiance Sunnie, and Henry's sister and boyfriend. Luke decided to come over around one because we were both bored. He brought me a energy drink. Boyfriends are great:). After watching tv for awhile Luke came up with the idea of playing badminton because it was amazing weather. It was kind of breezy so we decided to not put up the net and just hit around the badminton. After doing that for awhile dad turned on the sprinklers so we had to stop.
We went inside and were hanging out in my room trying to decide what to do when mom started yelling for help. We ran into the living room thinking she was having a painting catastrophe but she wasn't in the living room so we went to go to the kitchen when we ran into an inch of water on the floor. Something under the sink had come unhooked and water had been spraying on the floor for quite awhile. We all thought the spraying sound had been something dad was doing. We all ran and got towels and mom called dad in and he went and got the wet/dry vacuum cleaner and we basically soaked up and vacuumed the water up. It all took about ten minutes so I don't think the floor was damaged so that's good.
At 5 we met the others at McGlinn's. After about ten minutes I looked over and Alex's dad was standing like 5 feet away from me. I kind of freaked out. Worst time ever for his parents to show up right? Oh well at least it wasn't Alex. I swear they were waiting for a table for forever! I felt like I was being watched. I tried to acknowledge his mom but she didn't see me so I took it as a sign and decided to pretend I hadn't seen them. Besides that dinner went really well. The only person I had met there was Henry and only for a few hours. It was a pretty entertaining dinner though. Henry acted like he had known me forever so it was good. We were going to drive back to Ellensburg from the restaurant but we had to drive Henry and Sunnie home to Waterville. I met Henry's family which is like Luke's second family so that was good.
We finally started back to Ellensburg (I didn't end up taking my car back because Luke didn't want to drive back alone).
Today was much less eventful but we had amazing weather again. Luke and I did our homework outside and we got nice tans. Well right now we're kinda red but tomorrow it'll be a tan. It was a good weekend. I wish every weekend was this nice.

Cat vs. Dog vs. Spider

So Anna's killing of the cockroach reminded me of this story. I found a tiny little spider in my bathroom last weekend and instead of killing it I grabbed my cat who likes spiders and he played with it until he became more interested in the shower (he acted like it was narnia). Luckily Tazzy followed us in and as soon as the spider started scuttling away she just ran over and ate it. Note to self: little dog is much more useful in these kinds of situations. Much longer attention span. Who knew?

25 Things

25 random things
1. I only like the small Hershey bars. Not the king sized ones.
2. I only sleep on the edge of the bed. No matter how big it is. If my feet can’t reach outside the covers I freak out.
3. I’ve always wanted to be an author…Like Sarah Dessen. Just so I could make my own characters.
4. The only real calling I’ve had in my life is to learn languages. Mostly so I can teach my kids.
5. I hated avocados until about three years ago. Now I love them.
6. I’m much happier when I’m tan.
7. I’ve just recently become excited for the rest of my life after college.
8. My pet peeve is when people don’t like me. Unless I give them a reason not to.
9. I love babies. Whenever I see someone with one I want one!
10. Kids between 5 and 14 tend to drive me nuts.
11. I’m sooo excited to be an aunt!
12. Books on tape are my downfall
13. I wish I could not care about what people think.
14. As I get older, my expectations get higher. As do my stress levels.
15. Pomegranate is my favorite fruity smell.
16. The only kind of exercising I do is swimming.
17. I think I complain too much. But really what is complaining but telling people about bad things?
18. I hate when people use the wrong to, too. Or the wrong your you’re.
19. I love editing people’s papers. It makes me feel smart.
20. I’m a huge procrastinator.
21. Intelligence is a huge attraction factor.
22. I hate change.
23. I tend to favor even numbers as opposed to odd.
24. I make a wish whenever I catch 11:11.
25. I can’t live unless I have my person (the person I confide in).

My car needs a band-aid!

Okay so I don't know if you can tell in this picture without looking really closely but my back window is, indeed, shattered. Dad did the honors when he was trying to replace the hydraulics for the hatchback (note to self: never take automatic opening for granted; without hydraulics it's REALLY heavy!) the top fell down and hit one of the hydraulics and shattered. Not very surprising considering without them it slams closed at like 100 m.p.h..Anyway so my car is at home this week going to the car doctor and getting a wee little repair job done. But I'm going home tomorrow to get it. Nothing like a good $400 out the window (No pun intended). This is one of those times you feel relieved it wasn't your fault...
